Vol. 311 No. 2

Written Answers. - Government Departments' Oil Consumption.

114.

asked the Minister for Finance the details of oil consumption by Government Departments for purposes of heating, with particular reference to: (a) names of suppliers, (b) quantity of oil supplied by each, (c) when tenders are renewable, (d) the countries from which the oil is obtained, and (e) the price per ton.

The estimated total oil consumption by Government Departments for heating is 5,000,000 litres (approximately) per annum. (a) The supplier is Texaco (Ireland) Limited. (b) One Supplier only—Texaco. (c) The contract with that firm will expire on 30 June 1979. It is expected that tenders for a new contract will be invited by the Controller, Post Office Stores, in about 2-3 months' time. (d) It is understood from the supplier that the crude oil is obtained mainly from Saudi Arabia and that approximately 50 per cent of the quantity supplied is refined at Whitegate and 50 per cent in the United Kingdom. (e) It would be contrary to established practice in the case of Government contracts to disclose the contract prices which are strictly confidential.
