Vol. 311 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Inchicore (Dublin) Factory.

2.

asked the Minister for Industry, Commerce and Energy the progress which has been made in examining the possibility of reopening the former Van Hool McArdle factory at Inchicore, Dublin, under the auspices of CIE, or anyone else.

The Industrial Development Authority have been co-operating with the liquidator in efforts to obtain a replacement bus building project for this factory but so far these efforts have not been successful.

I am not aware of any proposals by CIE to take over the factory.

Has the Minister on his file answers of last February and November to similar questions? Am I to take his answer as meaning that the efforts of the IDA have been going on for a year without result?

It would be approaching that time.

Have CIE, to the Minister's knowledge, given any thought to the proposal which was made here more than once that CIE should resume the business which it dropped 18 months ago in the event of being unable to find somebody willing to reopen the bus and coach building project?

As the Deputy understands, I do not have any responsibility for CIE. Questions of policy to be pursued by them are matters for the CIE board and another Minister. The Deputy is probably aware that CIE have proposals in regard to the building of buses for their own use in another part of the country outside Dublin.
