Vol. 311 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork Industrial Development.

5.

asked the Minister or Industry, Commerce and Energy the plans the IDA have for industrial development in each of the following towns in County Cork: Kinsale, Bandon, Clonakilty, Dunmanway, Skib-bereen and Bantry; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I would refer the Deputy to a reply which I gave to a similar question on 8 June 1978. I am informed by the Industrial Development Authority that the following is the up-to-date position.

Construction of a new plant for the Eli Lilly project is well advanced at Dunderrow near Kinsale. This project will employ 150 persons initially in the manufacture of pharmaceuticals. I announced recently that the IDA intend to construct a 10,000 sq. ft. advance factory in Kinsale which will be actively promoted for suitable industry.

The former Jacobson factory in Bandon has been acquired recently by an existing industry there for the purposes of relocating part of their operations in the premises. The IDA have acquired a 3.4 acre industrial site in Bandon on which a 10,000 sq. ft. advance factory will be located. Work on this factory will commence as soon as the planning procedures are completed. Two projects in Bandon were recently approved for grant assistance under the IDA's small industries programme and these will provide about 30 jobs at full production.

Work has been completed on the 15,000 sq. ft. cluster of five units for small industries at Dunmanway; two of these units have already been occupied by new industries and the IDA are promoting the remaining units for suitable small industries.

In Clonakilty the IDA have approved grant assistance to an existing firm which will lead to a small expansion of its workforce. The IDA plan to build a new 7,000 sq. ft. advance factory in Skibbereen on the site which the authority own in the town. I also announced recently that the authority intend to build a 12,000 sq. ft. cluster unit in Bantry. Final arrangements for the acquisition of a suitable site are being made at present.
