Vol. 312 No. 1

Written Answers. - Oil Price Increases.

148.

asked the Minister for Industry, Commerce and Energy, further to his recent statements of anticipation of future oil price increases in the State, the estimated amounts of such increases in 1979.

It is not possible to indicate the level of possible increases in oil prices during 1979. The Deputy will of course be aware that the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries decided in December last to implement a four stage increase in the price of crude oil in 1979 effective from 1 January, 1 April, 1 July and 1 October. The situation in Iran may also affect the oil price picture.

All price increase applications received from the Irish oil companies will be examined by the National Prices Commission and my concern will be to ensure that the Irish consumer does not have to pay more than is necessary to ensure continuity of oil supplies.
