Vol. 312 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Secondary School Maintenance.

8.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware of the position of the Dominican secondary schools, Ballyfermot, Dublin, regarding maintenance problems and costs; and the special provisions he proposes to make in the matter.

I have not been aware of such problems in the case of the school in question. Secondary schools are private institutions and responsibility in these matters rests on the managerial authorities. The grants payable by my Department to secondary schools are of general application and are intended to assist in meeting general maintenance costs. The grant for tuition is being increased from £66.50 to £70.00 in the current year.

I do not know if my writing was at fault but the question should have referred to primary schools. If the Minister has the details with him perhaps he would give them to me.

I do not have that information.

I will put down another question.
