Vol. 312 No. 4

Written Answers. - Security Companies.

175.

asked the Minister for Justice the number of commercial security companies operating within the State; the number of these firms which are foreign-owned; if so, if they are responsible for key security operations such as the guarding of major Irish bank cash transfers; and if they are used by Government Departments for security purposes.

I have no function in relation to commercial security firms and accordingly I am not in a position to say how many of them are operating in the State or how many of them are foreign-owned.

It is a matter of general public knowledge that some such firms transport cash on behalf of banks and other companies. My Department do not utilise the services of such firms, but I cannot speak for other Government Departments.
