asked the Minister for Health if any estimate can be given showing the numbers of persons who have given up cigarette smoking since the commencement of the present campaign to curb this habit.

On the basis of a survey carried out on behalf of the Health Education Bureau in January of this year it is estimated that between 30,000 and 40,000 people gave up smoking during the six months July-December 1978.
