asked the Minister for Finance (a) if the Office of Public Works is responsible for the monument in the form of an obelisk supported by stone balls situated beside the public footpath above the mail-boat pier at Dún Laoghaire; (b) if so, if it is proposed to repair and reinstate it to its condition prior to it being damaged by an explosion several year ago; (c) and if not, why; (d) if the Commissioners of Public Works are aware that its plinth appears to be gradually developing fresh cracks, and whether they consider that in its present condition it is safe.

The replies to the queries are as follows: (a) Yes; (b) and (c) The question of the future of the monument is under consideration; (d) the Commissioners of Public Works keep this monument under regular surveillance and are not aware of fresh cracks. They consider that it is not unsafe at present.
