Vol. 313 No. 3

Written Answers. - Drogheda Bridge.

220.

andMr. Donegan asked the Minister for Finance the exact location of the new bridge for Drogheda to be provided in connection with the Boyne drainage scheme; the likely cost and duration of the works; when they are likely to commence; and the circumstances which necessitated them.

It is necessary to replace St. Mary's Bridge, Drogheda, because of danger to its stability from increased post drainage flows from the Boyne Catchment Drainage Scheme. The new bridge will be located at the site of the existing bridge which would be demolished. As the work will be the subject of contract negotiations it is not proposed to divulge the estimated cost. The work is expected to commence this year and to take about two years to complete.
