asked the Minister for Education the number of national schools who have co-educational classes (a) at infant level and (b) at all levels; and what is the total number of (i) boys and (ii) girls in co-educational classes in such schools; and what percentage do they form of the total number of boys and girls at national schools.

258.

asked the Minister for Education the number of single sex national schools; what proportion they form of the total; and what proportion of the total number of (a) boys and (b) girls in national schools they contain.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take questions Nos. 257 and 258 together.

The statistical data available do not enable me to determine the number of national schools which have co-educational classes as such. It is possible, however, to provide information on the number of schools in which both boys and girls or only boys or girls are enrolled. Information on this basis is as follows:
