Vol. 313 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Advertisement of Social Welfare Benefits.

5.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the total amount spent in the past year on television, radio, and newspaper advertising of the different benefits available to the public under the Social Welfare Acts.

The total amount spent in 1978 on newspaper advertising of the different benefits available to the public under the Social Welfare Acts was £61,000. There were no radio or television advertisements in 1978.

Would the Minister consider doubling that amount so that people might be made aware of their rights?

It will be more than doubled this year.

Is that due to increased advertising rates or to the volume of advertising?

More advertising.
