asked the Minister for Health in respect of the new scheme of eligibility to hospital services, precisely what services a person with an income in excess of £5,500 a year will be expected to pay for in respect of the full range of in-patient and out-patient hospital services.

Under the new arrangements of eligibility for health services which will come into effect on 6 April 1979 a person with an income of £5,500 or more will be liable to pay for hospital services as follows:

1. Fees of hospital consultants for services provided either as an in-patient or an out-patient.

2. Approved charges for private or semi-private accommodation in a public hospital where the patient has opted for this accommodation.

3. Charges for services provided in private hospitals or homes less subsidies which will be available towards the cost of maintenance in approved hospitals and homes.
