asked the Minister for Tourism and Transport the amount of money allocated from Government funds and the EEC in the past five years for the development of the following ports: Cork, Rosslare Harbour and Waterford.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Port Development.
During the five-year period 1974-78 grants totalling £1,816,893 were provided from the Vote for my Department for harbour development at Cork. In the same period grants totalling £50,000 were provided for harbour development at Waterford as well as a loan of £340,000 from the Local Loans Fund. No financial assistance was provided for harbour development works at Rosslare Harbour during that period.
In the same five-year period the Government received £371,182 from the European Regional Development Fund in respect of State grants for the harbour development scheme currently taking place at Cork. This money is part of a total allocation of grant assistance of £2.715 million from the fund for the Cork scheme. The Regional Fund moneys do not, however, represent an increase in the level of assistance for the Cork scheme but rather a partial recoupment of the State expenditure on the scheme.
The European Investment Bank have agreed to provide a loan of £10 million to the Exchequer towards the cost of State assistance for the Cork harbour scheme. In 1978 a sum of £4.5 million was received and the balance of £5.5 million is expected to be paid in 1979.
From what fund did that £4.5 million come?
I will repeat that part of the answer. The European Investment Bank have agreed to provide a loan of £10 million to the Exchequer towards the cost of State assistance for the Cork harbour scheme. In 1978 a sum of £4.5 million was received and the balance of £5.5 million is expected to be paid in 1979.
