Vol. 314 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - UNCTAD Common Fund's Second Window.

15.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if Ireland will take the opportunity at UNCTAD to make a voluntary contribution to the Common Fund's Second Window, as member states of UNCTAD are invited to state their intentions on this question in point two of the UNCTAD resolution TD/IPC/CF/CONF/18 dated 21 March 1979 to which Ireland is a party.

16.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the proportion, if any, of Ireland's direct contribution of $1 million to the Common Fund which will go to the Second Window of that fund.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 15 and 16 together.

In recognition of the importance of this aspect of the Common Fund the Government have decided to make a voluntary contribution to the Second Window. This voluntary contribution will of course be in addition to such portion of our basic contribution of $1 million as we would propose to allocate to that window. Minister of State Deputy Andrews will mention this in the course of his address to the current meeting of UNCTAD V in Manila tomorrow.
