Vol. 314 No. 2

Written Answers. - Balbriggan Harbour Sand Removal.

304.

asked the Minister for Tourism and Transport (a) the action it is proposed to take in view of the widespread removal of sand from Balbriggan Harbour area by local contractors and the consequent damage to local amenities and (b) if any licences have been issued in respect of such removals.

There is no current licence under the Foreshore Act, 1933, authorising the removal of sand or other beach material from the foreshore at Balbriggan Harbour. Accordingly any removal of sand taking place from that foreshore is unauthorised. My Department are investigating the position and, pending the outcome of the investigation, I am not in a position to indicate what action I will take.
