Vol. 314 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Recognition of Uganda Government.

6.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if it is proposed to recognise the Government of Uganda.

Ireland recognises the Republic of Uganda. This recognition dates from the time of the accession of Uganda to independence. As it is our practice to accord recognition to states rather than Governments, the question of formal recognition of the new Government of Uganda does not arise. I have however conveyed to the new Ugandan Government the Government's desire to enter into close and friendly relations with a view to mutual co-operation.
