Vol. 314 No. 4

Written Answers. - Farm Levy.

281.

asked the Minister for Finance the measures he intends taking in the face of the refusal of livestock marts to collect the 2 per cent farm levy.

: The excise duty on cattle imposed by the Imposition of Duties (No. 239) (Agricultural Produce) (Cattle and Milk) Order, 1979 applies to live cattle slaughtered in the State or exported. The persons responsible for payment of the duty are proprietors of slaughterhouses, abattoirs, meat factories and exporters. As livestock marts are not responsible for the collection of the duty no special measures are called for.
