Vol. 314 No. 4

Written Answers. - Trade Union Meeting.

310.

asked the Minister for Labour if in response to an application under section 15 of the Trade Union Act, 1975, he informed the executive committee of a trade union that no useful purpose would be served by a meeting and, if so, the reason for his refusal to receive representations from the executive members of the trade union.

The position is that in response to a request for a meeting with me the trade union in question was informed on 26 April 1979 that some of the detailed information which was necessary to enable its application to be processed had only recently been received and was being examined. It was also advised that until such time as the consent of the Minister for Finance had been obtained an indication could not be given as to the amount of the grant which would be available towards the expenses of the transfer of engagements by the trade union. I felt that in the circumstances the most appropriate time for a meeting with a delegation from the union would be when the position in relation to the level of grant which would be made available under the Trade Union Act, 1975, had been clarified.
