Vol. 314 No. 5

Written Answers. - CIE Proposals.

226.

asked the Minister for Tourism and Transport if he is aware that, as of January 1979 some 20,000 outstanding planning permissions have been granted by Dublin County Council for residential houses in the county area including some 3,000 in the South Dublin area; that in addition several thousand permissions have been granted by Dublin Corporation and the Corporation of Dún Laoghaire; if this projected major increase in population and car registrations has been taken into account in the Government's assessment to date of the CIE electric rapid rail transport proposals for the greater Dublin area and if he will make a statement on the matter in relation to this further information from these local authorities.

I am not aware of the planning permission figures referred to by the Deputy but I have no doubt that the Transport Consultative Commission in their priority task of examining the public transport facilities in the Dublin area will take account of all relevant factors, including projections of increased population and car ownership.
