Vol. 314 No. 6

Written Answers. - Picket at Veterinary Laboratory.

227.

asked the Minister for Agriculture the action he proposes to take in view of the fact that results of bovine blood tests in Thorndale Veterinary Laboratory may not be collected or new samples sent for testing because of an industrial picket and that this paralyses the disease eradication programme and movements of cattle under its provision.

All blood samples reaching the Thorndale Laboratory since the postal services became disrupted are being tested and the results issued. An interim injunction has been obtained in the High Court to restrain picketing at the laboratory premises in order to facilitate access by persons wishing to deliver samples there.

I am keeping the position under review and will consider what further action, if any, may be appropriate in the light of developments.
