Vol. 314 No. 6

Written Answers. - Balbriggan Industrial Provision.

263.

asked the Minister for Industry, Commerce and Energy, in relation to the provision of an industrial site, advance factories or new industries at Balbriggan, with the assistance of the IDA: (a) the grant paid or payable for the acquisition of an industrial site from Dublin County Council or private owners, (b) the grant paid or payable towards the provision of an access road to the Balbriggan industrial site, (c) the area of the proposed advance factory, the date of provision and if tenders have been sought for constructing the building, the likely date on which the advance factory is to be ready for occupation, the industries which are to be located on the Balbriggan industrial site, and the likely date on which industrial work will be available, and the number of likely jobs.

In January 1977 the Industrial Development Authority purchased a six-acre site in Balbriggan from Dublin County Council at a cost of £82,700. The site in question is fully serviced and the Dublin County Council has agreed to provide an access road and foul and surface water drainage.

On 22 September 1978 I announced that the IDA proposed to construct a 24,000 square feet advance factory on this site. Tenders for the erection of the factory closed on 20 April 1979 and are currently being examined. It is expected that work on the building of the factory will commence in mid-June and be completed within a period of about 12 months.

I am informed that the IDA are at present negotiating with a number of promoters, both Irish and overseas, which have expressed an interest in establishing industrial projects in Balbriggan. These projects have a significant employment potential, but I am not in a position to give details at present.
