Vol. 315 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Civil Service Pay Claim.

3.

asked the Minister for the Public Service if a demand for a 16 per cent pay increase was lodged by the civil services unions as reported in the evening newspapers on 20 June.

The Civil Service General Council Staff Panel have recently lodged a claim for the following pay increases: (i) with effect from 1 June 1979, an increase of 16½ per cent with a minimum increase of £10 per week, and (ii) with effect from 1 January 1980, an increase of 1½ per cent for each 1 per cent increase in the consumer price index in excess of 10 per cent in the period November 1978 to November 1979. The claim was made on behalf of all civil servants covered by the conciliation and arbitration scheme for the civil service.

As the matter is due to be discussed at the Civil Service General Council under the agreed negotiating procedures, it would be inappropriate for me to make any further comment at this stage.
