asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if it is proposed to have Ireland ratify the Convention for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination and, if so, when.
Written Answers. - Racial Discrimination Convention.

): It is the intention of the Government to ratify the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination which Ireland signed on 21 March 1968. As I indicated in reply to a question on 7 December 1978, it is my view that domestic legislation would be required for Ireland to ratify the convention. Since then further consultations between Departments concerned have taken place. I hope that following the conclusion of these consultations I will be able to recommend to the Government that the convention be ratified without undue further delay.
