Vol. 316 No. 3

Written Answers. - Christmas Grant.

64.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will seek supplementary funds so that a special Christmas grant could be paid to old age pensioners, the disabled, and other social welfare recipients this coming Christmas.

There are no proposals for paying a special grant to social welfare recipients at Christmas. I would point out, however, that provision has been made, in accordance with the national understanding, for an increase in all social welfare weekly payments by £1 a week from 1 October 1979 to 31 March 1980 with pro-rata improvements for dependants.
