Vol. 316 No. 3

Written Answers. - Cork Town Gas.

460.

asked the Minister for Industry, Commerce and Energy the percentage increase in town gas in Cork city sanctioned by the Government since July 1977.

The consumer price of town gas in Cork city has increased by 55.79 per cent since July 1977. I might add that the Cork Gas Company are in receipt of a very substantial Government subsidy which was increased in August 1977 and, but for this fact, the consumer price of town gas in Cork would now be more than 15p per therm or 22 per cent dearer. The increase in the price of town gas in Cork is in line with the increase in the cost of naphtha which is the raw material used.
