Vol. 316 No. 5

Written Answers. - Dublin Toll Bridge.

360.

asked the Minister for the Environment when work will commence on the new toll bridge in Dublin, the cost to the Exchequer of this bridge, the number of complaints he has received from the residents, their associations and councillors with regard to this bridge, and if any body has been established to investigate these complaints.

The provision of a toll bridge across the Liffey would be dependent on the enactment of the Local Government (Toll Roads) Bill, 1978, and on compliance with the various procedures governing the provision of such a bridge. The current proposal envisages that the Exchequer would not be required to meet any part of the cost of the project.

There is a specific procedure provided in section 4 of the Bill referred to for dealing with objections to toll schemes but, pending its enactment, the question of my receiving objections to any particular toll scheme would not arise.
