asked the Minister for Labour the number of industrial accidents in Ireland in each of the last five years.

Under the Factories Act, 1955, an accident in a factory must be notified to the Minister for Labour if an employee is killed or disabled for more than three days from earning full wages. Under the Mines and Quarries Act, 1965, an accident in a mine or quarry must be reported if it causes death or serious injury. The numbers of notifications received under these Acts in the last five years have been:—1974— 3,667 (25 fatal); 1975—3,443 (21 fatal); 1976—3,581 (18 fatal); 1977—3,467 (26 fatal); 1978—4,073 (26 fatal).
