asked the Minister for Education if he is aware that university institutions are treating first year repeat students as new students and applying a 25 per cent and not a 10 per cent increase to their fees and if he will make a statement about his policy on this matter.

Tuition fee levels in the university colleges are set by the authorities of each of these institutions. These colleges increased their tuition fees for the 1979-80 academic year by 25 per cent for first year students and 10 per cent for students in the second or later year of a course.
As far as repeat students are concerned, the question of the rate of increase to be charged is one for decision by the authorities of the university college involved.
