asked the Minister for the Environment if he has received a request from Dún Laoghaire Borough Council requesting county borough status for Dún Laoghaire and in view of the present population of Dún Laoghaire and the fact that next year will be the Golden Jubilee of the establishment of Dún Laoghaire Borough Council, if he will accede to the request.

A submission requesting county borough status was presented to me by a deputation from Dún Laoghaire Borough Council whom I met on 24 May 1979. The proposal would require legislation and, as I have already indicated to the deputation, it will be borne in mind in the examination of local government organisation which is at present being carried out in my Department.
