Vol. 317 No. 2

Written Answers. - Telephone Service.

360.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when transfer of telephone service for a resident (details supplied) in County Wicklow will be effected.

Service will be provided as soon as possible after the necessary cable becomes available in about a month's time.

361.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when a telephone service will be provided for a person (name supplied) in Dublin.

It is expected that service, which has been delayed owing to the postal dispute and, more recently, a problem with the cable, will be provided within the next month.

362.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will make a detailed statement on the development of the telephone exchanges in Bray, County Wicklow, and the interim measures proposed to meet connection demands in this area.

Telephone development in Bray will be met by increasing the capacity of the existing telephone exchange to meet long term requirements. This involves extending the existing exchange building. It is hoped to have the new exchange equipment in service in 1982.

Pending extension of the existing exchange arrangements have been made to provide a 1,000 line capacity mobile exchange at Bray and to transfer some 260 existing Bray subscribers in the Bray-Shankill area to the new exchange at Shankill, thus releasing equipment to serve subscribers in the Bray area.

Both arrangements should be completed by mid-1980. In the meantime the limited spare capacity remaining at Bray telephone exchange is reserved for high priority applications.

363.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when transfer of telephone service for an applicant (details supplied) in County Wicklow will be undertaken.

Cabling was not available to enable this application to be met. Service will be provided as soon as possible after the completion of the necessary cabling work in about a month's time.
