Vol. 317 No. 4

Written Answers. - Jobs Creation Committee.

488.

asked the Minister for Economic Planning and Development the number of meetings which have taken place of the Tripartite Standing Committee for creating additional jobs as provided for in the National Understanding, the number of additional jobs created and the location of the jobs.

There have been four meetings of the Tripartite Standing Committee on Employment.

Among other items, the committee has been concerned with drawing up a joint public and private sector employment programme to yield a total of 5,000 jobs. This work has not yet been completed, but it is the committee's intention that the 5,000 jobs will come on stream in 1980.

A plan for the provision of 1,000 of these jobs, to be created in the public sector in 1980, was approved by the committee on 1 November last, and I supplied an outline of this plan to the House on 27 November last. Arrangements for the detailed implementation of the plan, including the location of specific projects, are now being made, but have yet to be finalised.
