asked the Minister for Labour if it is proposed to introduce legislation to encourage trade unions to amalgamate.
Written Answers. - Trade Union Amalgamation.
382.
The Trade Union Act, 1975 facilitates amalgamations between trade unions by providing procedures for such amalgamations and for the transfer of engagements between unions. The Act also provides for the payment of grants from public funds in respect of expenditure incurred by trade unions arising from such amalgamations or transfers of engagements.
I would like to see greater use being made of this legislation in order to achieve greater rationalisation of our trade union structure.
