Vol. 317 No. 6

Written Answers. - Shortfall in EEC Payments.

339.

asked the Minister for Finance the estimated amount in interest charges owed by the Government as a result of financing the shortfall in the payment of EEC funds to Ireland and the amount of these charges which can be recouped from the EEC.

As a result of the shortfall in receipts from EEC funds, because of the delay in passing the supplementary budget, the estimated increase in interest charges to the Exchequer is £44,000. Of this, £21,000 will be recovered from the EEC and the question of the recovery of the remainder is being taken up with the Commission.
