Vol. 317 No. 9

Written Answers. - Cement Shortage.

312.

asked the Minister for Industry, Commerce and Energy if his attention has been drawn to the current serious shortage of cement and the steps being taken to remedy the situation.

Irish Cement Ltd. have informed me, in regard to the problem referred to by the Deputy, that while the demand for bulk cement is being met in full there has been some shortage of bagged cement since early November, due largely to the unprecedented increase in demand for cement. This shortage has not been of serious proportions and the company's expectation is that the situation will be brought under control before the end of the year.
