Vol. 317 No. 9

Written Answers. - Road Development Plan.

425.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will outline his schedule for road development in the next four years in regard to N 4 between Kinnegad and Dublin, if he will adhere to the original proposals of a motorway to run north of the present route, if he favours individual by-passes for each town on the route or a wholly new route and if he will give the completion date for the plan.

The Road Development Plan makes provision for a new route from Dublin to west of Kilcock. The line initially envisaged resulting from the Dublin Transportation Study is being reinvestigated at present taking account of recent development works, in-line obstructions and so on. It is not possible to prepare a programme of development for the project pending completion of these investigations. It is envisaged that the new route would avoid towns on the existing route, but construction standard has not yet been determined.

The Road Development Plan envisages substantial completion of the work by 1989, but achievement of this will depend on progress in planning and land acquisition and other relevant considerations.

Major improvements are also provided for in the Road Development Plan for sections of the existing route.
