Vol. 318 No. 1

Written Answers. - County Cork Roads Reclassification.

521.

asked the Minister for the Environment to furnish details concerning the application for the reclassification of roads in County Cork by Cork County Council since 1975 indicating (a) when such request was made, (b) if such applications were properly made technically and otherwise and, if not, when the county council were so informed and (c) the miles of roadway involved in such applications.

Since 1975 correspondence has proceeded regarding reclassification of a number of roads in County Cork.

No formal procedure exists for submission of applications for reclassification of roads and each approach is accordingly considered on its merits.

On 22 November last I received a deputation from the council and in the course of the discussion the deputation indicated the council would prepare updated information as to the development of traffic on the roads in question.

The council submitted the further particulars on 8 January, 1980 in respect of the following routes:

1. Glengarriffe/Castletownbere.

2. Bandon/Bantry

3. Cork/Crosshaven

4. Cobh/Cork-Waterford Road

The total mileage of the roads concerned is approximately 61.
