Written Answers. - Agriculture Statistics.

539.

asked the Minister for Agriculture the total amount of State expenditure in 1979 in relation to agriculture and the total estimated number of full-time farmers in the country.

State expenditure in relation to agriculture is provisionally estimated at £185.4 million for 1979. The latest information available on number of farmers is from a 1975 Farm Structures Survey conducted by the Central Statistics Office. This indicated that there were some 227,300 farm holders in the country of whom 123,600 had farms which were worked for 2,200 hours or more in the year.
