Vol. 318 No. 1

Written Answers. - County Cork Redundancies.

569.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if his attention has been drawn to the large number of the employees (details supplied) in County Cork, who have been given redundancy notices and that it appears insurance contributions have not been paid by the company for some years past and if he will ensure that the redundant workers will receive their full social welfare benefits.

I am aware that a receiver was appointed over the firm in question on 24 December 1979 and that arrears of contributions under the Social Welfare Acts are due in respect of 28 employees.

A claim for the full amount due will be made on the receiver. In the meantime the contributions due are being treated as paid and the position of the employees in relation to claims to benefit under the Social Welfare Acts has therefore been safeguarded.
