Vol. 318 No. 1

Written Answers. - Age of Criminal Responsibility.

451.

asked the Minister for Justice if his attention has been drawn to the serious public concern that, as the age of criminal responsibility in the State begins at the age of seven, children of this age are labelled as criminals and if he will introduce amending legislation to deal with this matter.

As I indicated on 3 May 1978 in reply to a parliamentary question (Official Report, vol. 306, cols. 208 to 210) the age of criminal responsibility is one of the matters which fall to be considered by the Task Force on Child Care established by the then Minister for Health in 1974.
