Since taking up my appointment as Minister for Defence I have not made any journey outside the State on official business.
However, my predecessor made one such journey during the period indicated in the question. He was accompanied by the Finance Officer, Department of Defence; the Chief of Staff; the Assistant Chief of Staff; the ADC to the Chief of Staff; and an official from the Department of Foreign Affairs. The cost of the journey is estimated at £7,500. The purpose of the journey was an official visit to the Irish contingent of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon and to Irish military personnel serving with the United Nations Force in Cyprus and with the United Nations Truce Supervision Organisation in Jerusalem.
Ministers of State at the Department of Defence did not undertake any journey abroad on official business during the period in question.
