asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry if he intends to nationalise or take over Munster Chipboard Ltd. under the Forestry Acts to ensure that this firm can resume the processing of thinnings from Irish forests and if he will make a statement on the matter.

It is not intended to take over or nationalise Munster Chipboard Limited under the Forestry Acts. As the Deputy will be aware the Government made every effort to achieve the re-opening of this mill. A basis for the re-opening was settled after long and detailed negotiations between an Irish Regrettably when details had been finalised the company concerned withdrew from the proposed takeover because of the action of a small group of picketers at the mill.

Subsequent efforts by various agencies to interest other companies, both Irish and foreign, in the re-opening of the mill on a viable basis have so far proved unsuccessful.
