The pension schemes applicable to the great majority of public servants are financed on a pay-as-you-go rather than a funded basis and the information sought by the Deputy is not, therefore, available. I can, however, say that the estimated cost of payments to existing public service pensioners is £94.8 million in 1980, as against £79 million in 1979.
