Vol. 319 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Telephone Service.

33.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the reason for the delay in the installation of telephones particularly in cases where the deposit has been paid.

The basic reason for the delay in meeting telephone applications is that the resources of buildings, plant and staff necessary to meet the greatly increased demand in recent years are not yet available. However, there is no general delay in installing telephones after applicants have completed agreements and paid the necessary advance charges.

That is not true.

34.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if the money allocated for the telephone exchange at Tuam, County Galway, has been spent to date and, if not, when it will be spent.

Since installation of the telephone exchange has not yet been completed, some of the money allocated for the telephone exchange project at Tuam has not yet been spent. The balance will be paid according as the work proceeds and it is expected that all payments will be made by early next year when work on the installation of the exchange should then be completed.

This will be expedited?

I notice Deputy Donnellan is not in the House.

He put down the question. It is no wonder the Minister is smiling.

They appreciate a good Minister like Deputy Killilea in Tuam.

Fianna Fáil did not appreciate the good Minister they had from the western part of country.

Questions Nos. 35 and 36 are being taken as written.
