Vol. 319 No. 1

Written Answers. - Slaney Salmon Catches.

12.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry the number of salmon caught on the Slaney river on the two opening days of the current season.

The information requested by the Deputy is not at present available to my Department for the following reasons: (1) Statistics of salmon catches are recorded in relation to fishery districts and not on an individual river basis, and (2) accurate returns of rod caught fish in any district become available only at the end of the season when anglers are required to give such returns.

For the Deputy's information, however, I should say that the early run of salmon in the River Slaney this year was well above that of recent years.
