Written Answers. - Pier Improvements.

15.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry if his attention has been drawn to the need for a new pier at Glengarriff, County Cork and if he will make a statement on the up-to-date position in this matter.

I am aware of the need for improvements to the pier at Glengarriff, County Cork. The Office of Public Works have been asked to furnish an engineering report on the pier together with an estimate of the cost of the work required to be carried out. On receipt of this report the matter will be considered further in my Department.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry when work will commence on the Gladnagerragh pier, Kilcar, County Donegal, and the reason for the long delay to date.

The Office of Public Works have been asked to carry out a scheme of improvements to Gladnagerragh Pier. Every effort will be made to have the work carried out as soon as possible.

Responsibility for the repair of the pier was assumed by my Department within the last 12 months but approval to carry out the necessary repairs was subject to Donegal County Council contributing towards the cost. Agreement of the county council was only recently obtained.
