Vol. 319 No. 4

Written Answers. - County Cork Island Slipway.

68.

andMr. Begley asked the Minister for Finance if he will outline the plans for the work now being undertaken by the Office of Public Works at Oilean na Ghaorach, Bere Island, County Cork; if his attention has been drawn to local concern that such plans do not provide for any realistic improvement on the present situation; the up-to-date position of the work now in progress and the number of men employed there; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The works in progress at Oilean na gCaorach provide for a 40 foot extension to the slipway. I am not aware of local dissatisfaction with this scheme which was sponsored by the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry and approved by Cork County Council. Pile-driving is well advanced and when this is complete concreting will begin. The works will be completed late this year. A foreman and two men are employed at present and it is intended to employ extra men as the work progresses.
