I mentioned to the Prime Minister of France at our recent meeting in Paris that there was a good possibility that an exhibition similar to the exhibition of Treasures of Early Irish Art could be organised to go to Paris in a year or two. Any such arrangement would, of course, be subject to the agreement of the relevant authorities here. The necessary planning will be undertaken by the Department of Education.
Would the Taoiseach indicate if there are any reciprocal arrangements for an exhibition of French art in Ireland?
This matter was discussed at the joint commission which exists under the Franco-Irish Cultural Agreement and is under consideration.
Would the Taoiseach guarantee the House that precautions are adequate to ensure the safety of these priceless treasures?
Yes. We would not consider sending them out at all unless we were fully satisfied about the safety arrangements.
Would the manifesto be regarded as a buried Irish Treasure?
Or the Labour Party, perhaps?
Or one wing of the Fianna Fáil Party?
