Vol. 319 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Donegal Telephone Service.

29.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when an all-night telephone service will be provided for Lettermacaward, County Donegal.

The introduction of all-night service at this exchange is not warranted because of the small number of subscribers served by the exchange and the limited use likely to be made of the service. Night service on a shared basis is already available to some subscribers and from a local kiosk and it is planned to provide night service on a shared basis early next year for some other subscribers who have requested it.

Has the Minister any further developments as far as automatic telephoning is concerned in this area and the Rosses in general?

Automation in this exchange is not imminent. There are in all only 38 subscribers and about 37 more are seeking telephone installation.

As regards the second part of the Deputy's supplementary question, I have not got the data with me to enable me to give him a correct answer in the general sense, but if he wants it I will give it to him.

The answer is no, we will not have a telephone system in Letter-macaward.

It is not imminent.
