asked the Minister for Transport if he will give a break-down under the following headings of the CIE deficit for the last year for which figures are available: (i) Dublin city buses, (ii) provincial bus services, (iii) coach tours, (iv) road freight, (v) main-line rail services, (vi) Dublin suburban rail services, and (vii) rail freight.

The information requested is as follows and refers to the year ended 31 December 1978, which is the latest year for which audited figures are available:—

No separate audited figures are available in respect of the Dublin suburban rail services, but I am informed by CIE that the estimated deficit on the Howth-Bray services for 1978 was £2.969 million.
