Vol. 319 No. 11

Written Answers. - Free Travel for Disabled Persons.

9.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will ensure that disabled persons in residential care receive equal rights with those who do not require residential care in relation to free travel facilities.

No distinction is made by my Department between those in residential care and those who do not require residential care. Free travel passes are issued to all who satisfy the qualifying conditions.

Some persons in residential care who would otherwise qualify may not do so because of their being in long-term residential care but may be in a position to occasionally avail of free travel facilities.

I am having the situation examined with a view to establishing how many such people there are and whether it is feasible to make provision for them.
